North Salinas High School Gym, Credit: Miles Teves

 I told you about my last day at High School right? I was drunk and hanging around outside Ms. Spann’s room looking at my art in the display cases. A Narc walked up beside me and complimented me on my stuff. When I turned to thank her, she smelled the booze. I believe her exact words were. “Have you been drinking?”. I confessed, and she said something like, “Get the Hell out of here right now. You have 2 minutes.”

Two years earlier as we were eating lunch in the mall area, I spit gum into my brothers hair. He was sitting on a bench and I was standing above him. As the gum hit his head, he drove his fingers through his hair to pull it out. Doing this made matters worse, and he went home later to cut it out. His bangs were uneven for 4 months. He never forgave me for this.

I can’t tell you how many dreams I have had of High School where I was failing because I hadn’t finished some homework. I think I even had one this week.
